Flooding April-May 2008

Here are pics of the 2008 flood's progress. Watch for the Š dates on the photos. Photos taken on the 27th were approximately 24 hours before the river crested. Those taken on the 28th were about at the flood's crest. Those taken on the 30th were as the waters started receding. The first three photos were all taken on Sunday evening between approximately 5:00 and 7:00. In the first shot, taken from the driveway into the park facing down toward Animal Control, you can see that the water has just started to breach the road. In the second and third shots, taken perhaps an hour later, water is rushing over the road and the field across the road from the park is completely flooded.

These are how the river levels affect the park (thanks Steve!):

12 foot- flood stage, river not in park yet

13 foot- river entering park at low points in main and small dog yards

14 foot- river level rising in main and small yards, getting close to parking lot

15 foot- river level rising in main and small yards, entering parking lot area and entry area

16 foot- parking lot, entry area, alley area, main and small yards covered, water enters shed and training yard

17 foot- 3 feet of water in entry area - main, small, and training yards covered, Cedar Bend Lane covered

Here is a spreadsheet created by Cindy with data on the flood; we hope this will help us prepare and know what to expect in future years.

Here is a site report from Cindy made as the waters were receding on 4/30/08: The water is out of the parking lot. I was able to drive up and park in front of the gates and walk in. There is still water in the entry yard, but I was able to get through the gate and walk to the small dog yard. I'm surprised at how good everything looks so far. There has been lots of debris washed in. As best I can tell, the fence that runs north and south between the main yard and the rugby field has been pushed over, similar to the 2004 pictures of that area. I went back and drove down the cabin lane at the back of the park. Same story, the low spot by the cabins has the fence leaning, similiar to 2004. I could not tell the condition of the east/west running fence on the north end of the main yard. I didn't try to get to the shed. All other fences appear to be intact. Also, there was a great big swan swimming in the main yard.
